We drove to Spa Francorchamps, a famous Grand Prix Race Track in a lovely area of Belgium. There are many quaint towns adjacent to this course, which is 5 miles long...through the hills of this village. We went as "groupies" of a good friend, Peter Dunn, who races Vintage Formula One Cars as a hobby.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpvP1945BbTsalgnXUnMmvArNJfBU2IUrO72SyBHsdF9yy9tzsm_J4V_Hion4bbwutcZ133HWSEJBghz4Xx-ucmQkcazq-VXPRqAyw9lbyoOjUxctuQfykdO7qlhYvSTckNFXmjKkz5zU/s1600-h/Vintage+Formula+One,+Spa,+Belgium+April+2009+003.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpvP1945BbTsalgnXUnMmvArNJfBU2IUrO72SyBHsdF9yy9tzsm_J4V_Hion4bbwutcZ133HWSEJBghz4Xx-ucmQkcazq-VXPRqAyw9lbyoOjUxctuQfykdO7qlhYvSTckNFXmjKkz5zU/s320/Vintage+Formula+One,+Spa,+Belgium+April+2009+003.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332772862431490642" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEig_CBw9iGJlGZeMu-LulcRT2DGUj1kATZJfiGFB14tJjE55WBEv18vNe3W-FsJlayR8nSGjB3X4j_4899EXVe5iwSLpl_UNkiY9osSaq7AwHXRNh5YMZTwxp7Xlrp35F8YgXeKrv0uPvc/s1600-h/Vintage+Formula+One,+Spa,+Belgium+April+2009+088.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEig_CBw9iGJlGZeMu-LulcRT2DGUj1kATZJfiGFB14tJjE55WBEv18vNe3W-FsJlayR8nSGjB3X4j_4899EXVe5iwSLpl_UNkiY9osSaq7AwHXRNh5YMZTwxp7Xlrp35F8YgXeKrv0uPvc/s320/Vintage+Formula+One,+Spa,+Belgium+April+2009+088.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332775103583295586" border="0" /></a><br />We stayed in Jalhay, at a darling inn, owned by a gentleman who worked for many years for Club Med...in the US, Paris and Monaco. He ran a quaint, clean, and charming place. It was Peter, his race team, Kevin & Melvin from England, Art and I, and a team of Interclub Golfers from Antwerp, Belgium, that consisted of about 20 crazy men! They were much fun! The next morning, after breakfast, we headed out to the race track for Peter's qualifying time trials. The place was amazing...with all sorts of vintage cars, lots of people, RV's, Tandem Rigs, and just a great atmosphere. It was cold and windy...but we had a great time. For SIX weeks, I travelled back and forth to Villefranche, five days per week, with lessons from 9 AM until 4:45 PM, and was totally immersed IN the language!<br />My first two weeks, I studied until I could not keep my eyes open, trying to learn as much as I possibly could...and what a job it was!<br />I am STILL at it...my confidence to speak is amazing, I am now conversing with folks I have never been able to speak with, because THEY DON'T speak English!<br />Life here in Monaco and France had been quite limited...I never felt like I was a "part" of the culture here, couldn't order a drink in French, nor so much as French Fries! (Now, I can speak French, and, I will learn French for some time! I adore the language, and I am very content to understand the language. I walk down the road and feel that I am a now a participant, no longer an outsider! It is GREAT!)<br />So, enjoy a few photos of this wonderful institute...it's been here for 30 years...my teacher, Magali, is amazing...and I was lucky to have her for SIX FULL weeks, and am continuing to have lessons with her each week!<br />For me, this IS the total experience!!!<br />http://www.institutdefrancais.com/index.html<br />This is the site for the school...do check it out!Art & Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02812419408712194659noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7103742323882356372.post-81587475653328457182009-03-12T14:49:00.000-07:002009-03-12T15:10:30.142-07:00OK, Now for the good part!!! Every year since 1998, this medieval village, north of Nice, perched high on a cliff, celebrates the birth of our Lord with almost every villager displaying a creche, in virtually every nook and cranny, along their ancient stone lined steps, up, down, through and around their village!!! You could not blink for fear you would MISS a special creche! The sizes ranged from a creche made in a walnut shell, to a life size creche at the entrance of the village.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgycQgXvlgtGYgXDM77ASO18m56AKs1QkfZbK3sc8inJyQ-rpn8MEqesZ3E69zfQH0A0XjzLW_6EPkF50t41i3YwEtOxJxsKcoklV_8tFrh6ukXr81Fy_ZncZpajk5D02LCGrQxx6m0jpY/s1600-h/December+Weekend+2008,+Limone+%26+Luceram+120.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 269px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgycQgXvlgtGYgXDM77ASO18m56AKs1QkfZbK3sc8inJyQ-rpn8MEqesZ3E69zfQH0A0XjzLW_6EPkF50t41i3YwEtOxJxsKcoklV_8tFrh6ukXr81Fy_ZncZpajk5D02LCGrQxx6m0jpY/s320/December+Weekend+2008,+Limone+%26+Luceram+120.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312405822756512562" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYsMGzo075aoGtyalFavU_wXkUrnd3WuBJbn94XQuAdPtFjWgm78uahVCP-hxy77xBDpdXksADSQuHP0vIFCVVSvcD8pDryE8YMXanmFMjD3m9nFnO88ilDdF6uldW4CLSNcA9OMUOuSQ/s1600-h/December+Weekend+2008,+Limone+%26+Luceram+122.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYsMGzo075aoGtyalFavU_wXkUrnd3WuBJbn94XQuAdPtFjWgm78uahVCP-hxy77xBDpdXksADSQuHP0vIFCVVSvcD8pDryE8YMXanmFMjD3m9nFnO88ilDdF6uldW4CLSNcA9OMUOuSQ/s320/December+Weekend+2008,+Limone+%26+Luceram+122.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312405832693693890" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSEl2YOOzM8kkVF2esHFqof-isHZtaFoG_QC6InkP792lkRoHqM2WiCa5kEkrUQVdG3KiTWQ0TDzLVmJ61OFixdELdZzNkg4GdHZ8WrJaYzRAfF_8As-qPQbX9ANAbP3idFRHfWBkPEao/s1600-h/December+Weekend+2008,+Limone+%26+Luceram+124.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSEl2YOOzM8kkVF2esHFqof-isHZtaFoG_QC6InkP792lkRoHqM2WiCa5kEkrUQVdG3KiTWQ0TDzLVmJ61OFixdELdZzNkg4GdHZ8WrJaYzRAfF_8As-qPQbX9ANAbP3idFRHfWBkPEao/s320/December+Weekend+2008,+Limone+%26+Luceram+124.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312405827379805874" border="0" /></a><br />On this special day, we were lucky to have a visit by "Pere Noel" along with his donkey, angel children, the farmer, and the maiden...what luck we had this special Sunday, at Christmas time.Art & Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02812419408712194659noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7103742323882356372.post-70575814522629535452009-03-12T13:03:00.000-07:002009-03-12T13:24:59.344-07:00Blue Skies, Lots of Snow, LET'S GO, TO LIMONE, Italy!!!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw0P11H3v_6G4jA-F42JNjqYbpwP1Zc2jKFC2NYNtJC6N88VcAZXAbMVQ5ngG91HLm-5Q3HboHKvvuH9SNj7rQkVP_wW5mfYykkFI1RwZSc1j-ljNVYOlalRwJG_TPVH2183U9xsiZqWE/s1600-h/December+Weekend+2008,+Limone+%26+Luceram+048.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw0P11H3v_6G4jA-F42JNjqYbpwP1Zc2jKFC2NYNtJC6N88VcAZXAbMVQ5ngG91HLm-5Q3HboHKvvuH9SNj7rQkVP_wW5mfYykkFI1RwZSc1j-ljNVYOlalRwJG_TPVH2183U9xsiZqWE/s320/December+Weekend+2008,+Limone+%26+Luceram+048.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312399002237354946" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br />First Saturday in December, the skies were clear, and we knew it had just snowed...so, OFF we went, with Peter and Rosy Dunn, to Limone, Italy, for the day! A perfect afternoon!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0ZpZL3UhoCyJ6R7x-_IU4R-27VJL4DH_2yaxAtAG0wmdQq1gVwZo5d4BgMW_-q79zUG9SmCItHszVdaHz6prIs_0R-fNaUaT9t1vLZb8fdtOXUzOHF5EZazm6Ia1RgS-MEMWVRRPpTAk/s1600-h/Nov.+30,+2008,+Monaco+016.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0ZpZL3UhoCyJ6R7x-_IU4R-27VJL4DH_2yaxAtAG0wmdQq1gVwZo5d4BgMW_-q79zUG9SmCItHszVdaHz6prIs_0R-fNaUaT9t1vLZb8fdtOXUzOHF5EZazm6Ia1RgS-MEMWVRRPpTAk/s320/Nov.+30,+2008,+Monaco+016.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312383468152842930" border="0" /></a><br />This is a place to remember, not far from home, yet half way to our mountain FIX!!!Art & Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02812419408712194659noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7103742323882356372.post-44565037514854377532009-03-12T12:02:00.000-07:002009-03-12T12:08:37.189-07:00We REALLY CAN see Corsica!!!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaxzET-uSNw3hdvzyfC9elti8zg7olb3vlANVeZ-O_0nedEeNZi6HkJ1knEryYWzTLtu67ga8Dmqm7u-tsRV-tGSinG9qbDzAMrv69wrdZ-to2qAy2DhUOv6zNAUSuoNGAzhB8wmfoWtY/s1600-h/Nov.+30,+2008,+Monaco+002.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaxzET-uSNw3hdvzyfC9elti8zg7olb3vlANVeZ-O_0nedEeNZi6HkJ1knEryYWzTLtu67ga8Dmqm7u-tsRV-tGSinG9qbDzAMrv69wrdZ-to2qAy2DhUOv6zNAUSuoNGAzhB8wmfoWtY/s320/Nov.+30,+2008,+Monaco+002.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312380216468896898" border="0" /></a><br />Another lovely morning, at first light, we were able to see the island of Corsica! This island is about 60 Km from the coast of France. Ferries run several times a day from many coastal towns. The island is part of France. We are told, this is just a reflection, and it is only visible when the conditions are just right. And the town crept right on down to the waters edge...with old stone streets and seawalls, pubs everywhere, and a great shopping area. We miss it so!!!<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5243250712167549186" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFGtwfX8uTsOHXeGWYG9GRJEtKaM3vBSiQuEnt9gFABec1Nc3e2ZEiYIMof9dHdIP8U_u4nPByx-JNWOYOve_X2bfDFFcPu8mGWNQTM26broae5vhVlyKrayk25RLXnHBsVzdKveNKwLI/s320/Visitors+002.jpg" border="0" /></div>Art & Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02812419408712194659noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7103742323882356372.post-56062355951256912752008-09-06T10:42:00.000-07:002008-09-06T11:45:14.506-07:00Summer Vacation, back in the StatesCam & Crystal, sleepy boy!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHihmmNFKgwAIyV-eoMhOikvKuzAai-XYwnwSLdvyym9rNnoREdNW90bcf1XDmXznLycO9rRZQrDBSJx6rWEZx8H97w2qT27jEEhMn3-pM_Wa-jh9RmnAlqWXZafOs7eNw4zJrFmqbvy0/s1600-h/August+25,+2008+048.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242967123628585522" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHihmmNFKgwAIyV-eoMhOikvKuzAai-XYwnwSLdvyym9rNnoREdNW90bcf1XDmXznLycO9rRZQrDBSJx6rWEZx8H97w2qT27jEEhMn3-pM_Wa-jh9RmnAlqWXZafOs7eNw4zJrFmqbvy0/s320/August+25,+2008+048.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div>Art and I decided that we'd like to take a vacation to our home in NC in August, and that we did. We were able to spend time with Kyle, who is living there, Crystal & Camden, who came for the entire stay, which was the biggest treat to have the little one with us day in and day out, and Dustin, who was able to spend about five days with us there as well. It was reminiscent of the days when we spent all our vacations on Beech...great weather, lots of fun, and lots of food!!!</div><br /><div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242967116295429522" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDLKqJKqpZGMX5VXErLoeJRTk8t_h3OG_EURrDXROt241lQqE7nomyGaZSbHSUcYplqAH5lG_zvRUSzUuRemM9dNW_gBRUVAoIzJBJoDEnXDLXM5C0ZIHc17c5v2GS4TzxD01ErdiCQKk/s320/August+25,+2008+141.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div>I <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">don't</span>' want to bore you with all the photos of this trip, but...I do want to throw in a few pics of Camden...always a chance to let you see him growing up...what a doll. We were dressed for the Monaco - USA Fourth of July Celebration on the beach when my phone rang and Anja & Toby said they had two extra tickets for dinner and the show, could we make it...well, of COURSE we can...in 15 minutes we were dressed for the show, and at our seats!!! What a night...the company was fantastic, champagne amazing, and when the roof retracted on the 2000 seat auditorium, set with white linened dining tables, and the fireworks began, we were truly amazed. Then, the floor in front of what we thought was the stage, raised to table level, out walked Diana, in all her sequins and feathers...belting out song after song of the Supreme's, Mahogany, Billie Holiday and more! We couldn't get enough...<br /><br />AGAIN, we were so lucky to be invited to see ZZ Topp with a large group of ship brokers and their friends at the same venue...and again, the same wonderful effects. Everyone was dancing, standing on chairs, and rocking out to the boys from Houston...again, an amazing night!!!<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242965008160447826" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgX0BBL0cG836c2DfZUk3lZLuWBwtDp20IwVEuGpZnwrn55zeWnFYiHsGrCatdhME6m-wwgtA9IGizGimq6T3SQymkTP-4rzzYTHKfp4P6tNbMk3Fe0NiA3H-V-UWt7PACV0eb51fGeXfA/s320/August+25,+2008+033.jpg" border="0" /><br />But, AGAIN, in the same week in July, our friends invited us to see Alicia Keys...and she was able to wow us again! With the retracting ceiling being an, I know it's coming, and the fireworks, just usual...but SHE WAS AMAZING...I did not bring my camera in to either of the first two shows, but slipped it in my bag for the third, and here are a few pics from that fab night!!! I'm now a big fan of ZZ Top and Alicia Keys...what fun!</div><br /><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dzYao-EqPmDY5gmVHPpvVnwSIMGcfnGfxLgverw3dogvzypXMV62IOlDs1G7fsQwsPZ16r8zQeQvGvFXl3_dA' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe>Art & Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02812419408712194659noreply@blogger.com0
